Questions people sometimes ask.
(And a few I made up just in case.)

Are you available to shoot in my area?

I live in Heber City, but I have also done sessions in Salt Lake, Utah, and even Sevier counties. If you have a specific location in mind, shoot me a message to see if I'm game.

Are you "on location" only, or do you have studio space?

Much of the time I shoot outdoors because my clients prefer it, but I have a small studio set up in the basement of my home in Heber City. It's large enough to accommodate most family groups. Your session can even include both studio and outdoor time, if you'd like.

How much does a portrait session cost?

Portrait sessions last roughly one hour and cost $75. Sessions include a $20 credit towards your print order. Various discounts and credits may be available as I work to build a stronger portfolio; check the home page or contact me for current offers.

How long will it take to receive our pictures?

The best shots from your session (typically 25-35 pictures) will be available in an online gallery three to five days days after your session. The gallery will be available for three weeks, during which time prints may be ordered from a secure online server. Once ordered, prints typically arrive in five days.

What kinds of prints are available?

I print with one of the most highly regarded professional print labs in the country, offering archive-quality prints from wallet-sized up to 24"x36". Also available are prints on canvas and even gallery-wrapped prints. Every print is backed by an unconditional quality guarantee.

How much do prints cost?

My print pricing is extremely competitive for the quality you receive. Prints range from $10 for a 5"x7" up to $100 for a 24"x36" print. Contact me for a complete list.

Why are prints more expensive than enlargements at Costco?

Print prices cover not only professional printing, but also the time and talent required to process the images. I hate to toot my own horn, but I'm pretty darn good at post-processing images, having taken coursework from the best in the business. The difference in quality has yet to disappoint a client.

Who made your website?

I did. I've been a web geek even longer than I've been a photographer. And you know what's cool about it? No Flash. I don't like Flash-based photography sites, no matter how trendy they have become!

If it's just you, why the funky company name?

Most photographers choose to name their business after themselves, but remember in the movie That Thing You Do when they start out with a band called "The Oneders"? Nobody knows it's supposed to be "The Wonders" because "Oneder" is a funny word. Well, "Malan" is a funny name, so I decided to skip the pronunciation problem altogether and choose something more creative. Besides, Mojo Photo has a certain ring to it, don't you think?

So how do you pronounce your last name?

It sounds like mailin' and rhymes with sailin'. (Also with failin' and flailin', but I prefer sailin' to either of those.)

Is photography your full-time job?

Nope, but as luck would have it I love my day job, too. My business cards say I'm an "Information Systems Manager." Basically, I design user interfaces, write code and play around with databases.

How can I prepare for my session?

There's a lot of advice out there about dressing and posing for a photo session, but when it comes down to it, just be yourself. Need something more specific? Talk to me about it when we schedule your shoot.
